Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalaithaa to name a road overbridge, which is to be inaugurated by her shortly, after D Balasundaram, who started Textool in 1946.
In a letter to the chief minister, ICCI president D Nandakumar said the bridge is called "textool bridge' since the company was located in that area.
Known as 'Textool Balasundaram', he was a catalyst and played a big role in the inclusive development of the region and was the pioneer in manufacturing Textile Machineries along with many other products in India, he said.
Being the birth centenary year of Balasundaram, it will be quite appropriate to name the Bridge as 'Textool Balasundaram Bridge' which would be a great recognition for his enormous achievements and contribution to the Industrial Development of Coimbatore, he added.
