Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said changes in the plans of the proposed light metro projects here and Kozhikode were necessary to suit the new Metro policy of the Centre.
A committee headed by State Finance Secretary has been constituted to examine the additional documents submitted by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which was roped in to execute the projects, he said replying to a submission in the assembly.
Kochi Metro was implemented by DMRC.
The project details of the Thiruvanathapuram and Kozhikode light metros would be sent to the Centre after the committee examines it and approval by the state government, he said.
Vijayan said for the 22.5 km Thiruvananthapuram light metro project Rs 227 crore has been sanctioned. Also administrative sanction has also been given for the land acquisition in some areas, he said.
With regard to 13.33 KM light metro in Kozhikode, a total of 8.28 hectare government land has been allotted for the construction of the yard for the project, he said.
Meanwhile, Congress led UDF and BJP opposition alleged that there was a move to keep away "Metro Man" and DMRC advisor E Sreedharan from the Light Metro projects of the state.
UDF leader Ramesh Chennithala said the move to exclude Sreedharan from the project would lead to corruption.
