The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has directed TV channels to display mandatory Censor board certificates before airing movies or trailers of new films, failing which they are liable to face penal action.
In an advisory, the ministry said that it had come to its notice that a number of TV channels continue to telecast films or trailers of new films without displaying CBFC certificates.
Showing films or film trailers without CBFC certificates is against the rules, it said.
"Showing films/film trailers without CBFC certificate is a violation of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 as enshrined in Rule 6 [l] 1n) of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994 which further provides that no film or film song or film promos or film trailer or music videos or music albums or their promos, whether produced in India or abroad, shall be carried on cable service unless it has been certified by the CBFC," the advisory said.
"Therefore, all TV channels are once again advised to display the CBFC certificate before telecast of any film/film trailer which is clearly visible to the viewers," the ministry said, adding that further violations of the programme code could attract penal action.
