A Delhi court today framed charges against three persons, including a former Vice- Chairman and an ex-member of Bar Council of India (BCI), in an alleged corruption case.
Special CBI Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna put on trial Rajinder Singh Rana, who was then a BCI member, Raju Dhanapal Raj, then BCI Vice-Chairman, and Manish Tyagi, then member of advisory council of Ghaziabad-based Global Law College, for alleged offences under section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court has fixed the case for December 7 to record prosecution evidence after the three accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
According to the CBI, the accused had allegedly obtained illegal gratification from Chairman of Global College of Law to give a favourable inspection report for its recognition.
It alleged that Rana and Raj had demanded Rs 15 lakh in October 2010 at the time of inspection after which Tyagi had negotiated and amount was reduced to Rs six lakh.
It had claimed that while Rs five lakh was paid in December 2010, Tyagi had delivered Rs one lakh to Rana outside the BCI office here which was recovered by CBI.
The court, while framing charges against the accused, said that Rana and Raj, being public servants at that time, had allegedly abused their positions and obtained pecuniary advantage.
Regarding Tyagi, the court observed that he had allegedly abetted the commission of offence by negotiating and settling the bribe amount for a favourable inspection report.
All the accused have denied the allegations levelled against them by the CBI.
