Charges have been framed on the counts of attempt to murder, theft, wrongful confinement and trespass under the Indian Penal Code.
John was arrested by the police in November 2012 and has been in custody since then.
John, who owns production house 'No Nonsense' and has produced-directed television serials, flung some chemical at Arayanka Hosbetkar (26), an international cyclist, at her residence at Adarsh Colony in Worli.
The two were going through problems in their 10-month-old relationship after Hosbetkar came to know that John was married and had a five-year-old son.
