Chavan to meet Natarajan for Shivaji memorial clearance in Mum

Maharashtra government will discuss the issue of environmental clearance for the proposed Shivaji Maharaj memorial in the Arabia Sea with Union Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan during her visit here in April.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan informed this to the state Legislative Council, while replying to a query during the question hour.
"I would be meeting the minister on April 2 during her visit to the city," Chavan said.
The process to set up a project management consultant has also begun, the Chief Minister said.
A new site with 16.5 hectares area for the memorial has been proposed and would be finalised after visit of party group leaders in the Legislature, he said.

It won't be possible to state now the date on which work on memorial would start, Chavan said, adding, the state government would ensure that there would be no shortage of funds for the project.
Shiv Sena had opposed the announcement of the proposed memorial before 2009 polls, with its leader late Bal Thackeray then calling it an "election gimmick."
The country's general elections and Maharashtra Assembly elections are slated to be held next year.
