The Chhattisgarh Government will start holding 'gram sabhas' (village meetings) from tomorrow, the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, covering around 20,000 villages, with an objective to give people an account of various works done in Gram Panchayats, an official said today.
"In order to bring transparency in the implementation of government schemes and to give an account of utilisation of financial resources with the Panchayats to villagers residing there, gram sabhas will be held in the state," a public relation official said here.
The meetings will be organised in around 20,000 villages under 10,971 Villages Panchayats of the state.
"These meetings will be held on different dates in different villages in which the concerned sarpanch, panch, gram panchayat secretary and local villagers would participate," he said.
A notification has been issued to all district collectors by the Panchayat and Rural Development department, asking them to start the preparation for the meetings.
Chief Minister Raman Singh has appealed to people of the state, particularly those residing in rural areas, to attend Gram Sabha meetings in large numbers, so that an open and elaborate discussion can be held on issues related to panchayats, the official said.
All government-sponsored development schemes will be reviewed during such meetings by the villagers.
The villagers can also seek information about the fund received in villages and the amount spent on various development works, he added.
