Senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal today met Raj Thackeray at the latter's residence, after the MNS chief's mother sustained fractures in a mishap.
Bhujbal told reporters that the meeting was apolitical and that he had very old-ties with the Thackeray family.
"The meeting that we had today was not political in nature. Raj Thackeray's mother had fractured her hands and back. My wife and I have old relations with the Thackeray family, and thus went to meet her," the NCP leader said.
"Every year, the ladies of the house meet outside and go on religious tours. After my wife came to know of the incident, she said she wanted to meet Raj's mother. That's why I took my wife and went to meet Kunda tai," he said.
Bhujbal stated that he will be in Nagpur from tomorrow for the state Assembly's winter session, thus he took his wife to the Thackeray residence today.
When asked about the conversation he had with Thackeray, Bhujbal said the talks only revolved around Dalit icon Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and his immense following.
"We spoke about Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's programme at 'Chaityabhoomi' today and the kind of crowd that came to pay respect to him. He is one person who has done so many favours to the poor and the downtrodden that they can never forget him," he said.
Lakhs of followers of Dr Ambedkar gathered at his memorial 'Chaityabhoomi' here in Dadar area today on the occasion of his death anniversary. The day is observed as 'Mahaparinirvan Diwas' by Ambedkar's followers.
Bhujbal said that although his party will not spare anybody from the rival parties in politics, but as far as personal relations were concerned, Maharashtra has had a history of the staunchest of political opponents being closest friends.
