Devi fell into the 400-feet bore well accidentally when she came to the site by 7.45 am along with her mother, a farm labourer.
"Although the bore well is 400 feet, the casing pipe has been fixed only till 20 feet. The child is stuck at 20 feet. We are supplying oxygen and thankfully the child continues to talk," V Ramasamy, Divisional Officer, Fire and Rescue Service Department (FRSD), Tiruvannamalai, told PTI from the rescue operations site.
"So far, we have dug upto 18 feet. When we finish digging another 3 feet in about 45 minutes, we hope to locate the child and rescue her," Ramasamy said.
On hearing the fall of the child into the borewell, the agitated villagers and relatives of the child gathered at the site. Deputy Director, FRSD (Vellore Region) David Vincent is overseeing the rescue work. Local revenue officials and, police officers are on the spot.
