The incident occurred on February 13 and the accused has been arrested, the said.
The child was playing alone on the backyard of her house when the accused induced her by offering chocolate and committed the offence, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Nrusingha Charan Swain said.
The victim was medically examined after a complaint was lodged in connection with the incident which triggered public outcry in the area.
Cases under section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) besides Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 of IPC were registered against him, he added.
