Children's home: HC orders status quo

Madurai Bench of Madras High Court today ordered status quo and restrained the Kanyakumari District Collector from taking any action against a home for children, being run by Salvation Army.
Justice T.Raja, admitting the petition filed by one T Alfred seeking to restrain the Collector from taking any action against the Tucker Girls' Home at Vettoornimadam, said "status quo should continue."
The petitioner submitted that the home was running with temporary registration and its application for permanent registration was pending due to delay on the part of Tahsildhar in issuing the building license.
He has moved the petition in view of the District Collector's recent statement that 11 homes, including the Tucker Girls' Home, would be closed for want of registration.

There were 53 children in the home and unless the court gave a direction restraining the officials from closing the home, they would be put to hardship, he said.
