The top anti-graft body of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday said that 26,900 officials have been punished for violating austerity rules in the first half of 2016.

Those punished were involved in 19,160 cases, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said.

Awarding unauthorised bonuses was the most common misdemeanour (4,793), while misuse of public vehicles (3,449) and sending or accepting gifts (3,370) were the second- and third- most common, the CCDI figures show.
