China showcased its latest scientific and technological achievements in big data industry at an international expo began here Sunday in which around 470 companies from across the world are participating.
Around 26,000 representatives from nearly 55 countries are participating in the country's flagship programme 'International Big Data Industry Expo 2019' in Guiyang city of Guzhou province.
President Xi Jinping's congratulatory remarks were read out at the opening ceremony of the expo which seeks to highlight the wisdom and contribution of practitioners in the sector of big data, and build itself into a world-class platform for innovation exchanges and display.
Wang Chen, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said that big data is the next stage in the data revolution, which ensures sustainable development.
Wang, who is also the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress, said with big data there will be contribution to economical development in more countries.
Sun Zhigang, Secretary of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee, said the big data expo has gone through five years of tremendous development.
He said all big data companies are developing with strong momentum, adding that smart initiatives are helping people enjoy digital life.
At the event, American cryptologist and security technologist Whitfield Diffie, co-winner of the 2015 Turing Award, said that big data will be everywhere and its security will affect everything - individuals, business, governance and critical infrastructure.
"Artificial Intelligence can be used to produce entirely new ways of controlling computers," he said.
He said that sometimes, it is important to conceal information from entities people don't want to see it.
According to the organising committee of expo, the event aims to showcase the latest scientific and technological achievements in big data worldwide, reflect the influence and innovation power of big data.
