Twelve others were injured in the incident that took place on April 28 in Fujian province's capital city of Fuzhou.
The procuratorate of Minhou county approved the arrest of the suspect, surnamed Lin, on the charge of endangering public safety through dangerous methods on Sunday, local provincial procuratorate said.
Lin allegedly plowed into pedestrians in a rented Lexus sedan, killing six people, including three children, on the spot en route from Changle city to Minhou county, state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.
A police investigation found that the man originally planned the trip to Minhou to retaliate against his wife's parents because he believed the couple was behind her multiple requests for a divorce, the report said.
The morning before the rampage, Lin had attended a court trial over the divorce dispute at Changle.
Further investigation is on.
