Chitra said she hasn't sung for the past 27 years and it was very difficult for her to even speak now.
She, however, thanked the jam-packed audience for showering their love and affection on her.
"For the past 27 years I haven't sung and it is now even difficult for me to speak for a longer duration, so singing is out of question for me," said Chitra, who stopped performing after herson Vivek died in a road accident in Mumbai in 1991.
The Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh began with a Kuchipudi performance by Padmaja Reddy of Hyderabad followed by famous singers Pandit Vishwanth and Pandit Manu Maharaj.
Other performances were byKolkata-based sitar player Ustad Nishat Khan, Gufam Ahmad Khan of Afghanistan, who played Rabab and a vocal performance by Pandit Devashish Dey and Shubhankar Dey.
