: Around 150 CITU activists today courted arrest when they attempted to lay siege to the Assembly in support of the demands of auto rickshaw workers owing allegiance to their union.
Among those held were the president of CITU R Rajangam. They took out a rally earlier and when they tried to proceed beyond a certain point to launch their agitation at the Assembly, they were taken into custody.
The agitators are demanding among other things a separate welfare board for workers in the unorganised sector, a cooperative society to sell auto spare parts, Rs 2,000 as festival allowance to each auto worker and welfare schemes for amelioration of these workers.
