The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested notorious gangster Vishal Goswami from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, for his alleged involvement in various cases of loot, abduction as well as murder, officials said here today.
"We nabbed gangster Vishal Goswami and his brother Ajay Goswami from Mathura town of Uttar Pradesh, while his two accomplices Rinku Goswami and Pritam Goswami were also arrested at Khicha area of Rudrapur town in Uttarakhand," city Police Commissioner Shivanand Jha told reporters here.
Goswami, who is alleged to be involved in crimes like murder, loot and abduction in the city as well as other parts of Gujarat, was caught after a fight with the police in which he received a bullet injury in his thigh.
"When the police went to arrest him, he attacked the police. A gunfight ensued and he was injured in his thigh after which he was arrested. He was shown to a doctor in Uttar Pradesh and he is being brought back to the city," Jha said.
The operation was successfully carried out with the help of the special task forces of the Uttar Pradesh police and the Uttarakhand police, Jha said.
Goswami, a native of Rajasthan, was active in Gujarat since 2010-11 and there are around 45 to 50 offences of loot, burglary, abduction as well as murder attributed to him and his gang, Jha said.
He had absconded after he fled from the custody of the Rajasthan Police in 2010 and began operating in Gujarat, Jha said.
