A marriage custom proved to be costly for a bride and a groom after the groom's side objected to shoe-hiding by the bride's side sparking off a dispute which turned into a clash, leaving four persons injured in Srigangangar district.
The marriage of Priyanka and Somdautt was cancelled yesterday night after the scuffle, police said today.
"Relative girls of the bride wanted to hide shoes of the groom but was objected to by the members of the groom's side. The argument turned heated and members of both the sides thrashed each other.
"Relatives of the groom also pelted stones at the relatives of the bride leaving her uncle, his wife and two others injured," police said.
Locals intervened in the matter and controlled the situation and pacified them.
But both the sides decided to call off the wedding, police said, adding that both the families gave complaints against each other.
