The victim identified as Tilottama Patra (11), daughter of Jagannath Patra of Nimakhandi Penth village under Digapahandi block, had sustained injury on her head and was admitted in MKCH Medical College Hospital here for treatment yesterday. She died during the treatment today, said district education officer (DEO) Sanatana Panda.
District collector Prem Chandra Chaudhary said inquiry would be conducted about the girl's death. Separate inquiry would be made by the police, tehsildar and education officer, sources said.
"The girl was hit by brick on her way to toilet in the school campus. We had immediately shifted the girl to hospital," said head master of the school Jatia Mallick.
He said the construction of the toilet wall was stopped since last 9 months.
Angry over the incident the villagers locked the main gate of the school. They demanded compensation to the parents of the deceased.
Describing the incident as an unfortunate, former minister and local MLA (Digapahandi) Surya Narayan Patro demanded an enquiry into the quality of the work and to probe why the construction was stopped in the mid way.
Patro also alleged that the girl might have died due to negligence in the treatment.
