Atleast 20,000 villages in Chhattisgarh would undertake a week-long cleanliness drive beginning tommorow as part of the Narendra Modi government's 'Clean India' campaign, which will be launched on October 2.
According to official sources, more than 10,000 Gram Panchayats will be observing the 'Cleanliness Week' as part of the drive from September 26 to October 2, educating people about the significance of the campaign in their villages.
This drive to clean government offices, schools, hospitals, work places, streets, roads and markets, railway station and bus terminals, statues, monuments, rivers, lakes, ponds and other public places will also be undertaken in towns and urban cities across the state, officials said.
All District Collectors have been directed to zero-in and develop as well as clean a park, a hospital and a water body in their respective districts to make it fit for public use.
Also, special Gram Sabhas will be held at schools in all districts to create massive public awareness and to ensure participation of maximum citizens in the mass movement aimed at cleaning the country, they said.
Besides, street plays, debates, essay and drawing competitions, cultural as well as sport events on the subject would also be held through the week.
The Cleanliness Week would focus on: home and personal hygiene (Sep 26); on upkeep of pets and animals including their shelter (Sep 27); on cleaning market places and roads (Sep 28); public places (Sep 29); lakes, ponds and water bodies (Sep 30); drains and seweries (Oct1 ) culminating with meetings and discussions in Gram Sabhas over the drive.
