Clearing garbage in Delhi responsibility of MCDs: AAP

Party leader Ashish Talwar said this to make people aware that it is the 'sole responsibility' of the BJP-ruled MCDs to keep Delhi clean

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday launched a campaign over the unattended garbage in the national capital, as it put the onus of cleaning the filth entirely on the BJP-ruled civic bodies.

Starting today, AAP is putting up a hand-shaped sticker, that reads "Spot the KACHRA: it is BJP-ruled MCDs' duty to clear this filth", across Delhi's garbage dumps to drive home the message.

Ironically, the campaign comes within a week of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's call for cross-party unity to tackle the mosquito menace in Delhi, which is reeling under a spurt in cases of chikungunya and dengue.

"AAP volunteers will identify garbage dumps and paste the stickers. The campaign will cover all the 70 Assembly constituencies. AAP volunteers will complete the work of placing stickers in one week," party leader Ashish Talwar said.

The move is intended at making people aware that it is the "sole responsibility" of the BJP-ruled MCDs to keep the national capital clean and free of mosquitoes, as the message often gets lost due to "multiplicity" of authorities in Delhi, he said.

AAP's Delhi convener Dilip Pandey said the municipal bodies have become "financially and functionally bankrupt" in the last 10 years due to the "inefficiency" of their BJP-led administration.

"The BJP-led civic bodies are playing with the health of Delhiites. MCDs are obligated to keep Delhi clean, but have failed miserably performing this duty," Pandey said.

An AAP functionary said that since August, the party has organised about 200 protests against the MCDs, that will go to polls next year.

Yesterday, the AAP government had launched a month-long fogging drive across the city, saying the MCDs have failed on their part.
