Peaker V Sabapathy, Ministers, legislators and delegates of various associations and trade unions, including state Committee functionaries were among those who paid homage at the bust on the premises of Subbiah's home, converted into a centre of art, culture and research activities.
Puducherry government has launched the centre as per the will of Subbiah, who donated the building to the government.
Subbiah was a veteran labour leader and spearheaded the workers movement during the French regime for introduction of eight hour work schedule in industries and other establishments in 1930s.
He also headed the liberation movement in Puducherry and was founder of bilingual journal 'Swathanthiram'. He was the Secretary of the Communist party in Puducherry for several years.
