Parents and teachers would have to shoulder greater responsibility for providing children better education and making them interested in sports, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said at a Children's Day programme.
He also urged the children to be cautious while using social and other new media and asked the parents to keep the children away from the negative use of social media.
"The teacher's responsibility doesn't end with providing classroom education only, but they will have to work for strengthening their mental abilities as well and guide them to lead a disciplined and ideal life," Sonowal said.
"We must put in joint efforts with dedication and responsibility for physical, mental and intellectual development of the children," he said at the function organised by the Asom Sishu Sahitya Nyas here.
The chief minister lauded the role of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in giving a secured and empowered life to children.
Coinciding with the children's day celebration, Chief Minister Sonowal also released 10 books published by Asom Sishu Sahitya Nyas.
He also inaugurated an art competition, which was organized as part of the celebration.
