Director of a coaching academy has been arrested for allegedly cheating students to the tune of Rs 11 lakh by falsely promising them highest teaching standards and other facilities, the police said here today.
Ambrish Kumar, director of the Paradigm IAS Academy, which assured training to students to prepare them for exams conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Maharashtra Public Service Examination (MPSC), was arrested yesterday after complaints by 11 students, D N Nagar police station's senior inspector Rajendra Chawan told PTI.
Students preparing for UPSC and MPSC exams were promised quality education, lectures by prominent professors and visits to various sites by the coaching class, the police said.
"Several assurances were made in writing as well as orally, but they were not fulfilled by Ambrish Kumar, who according to the students, used to take lectures. There was no quality in teaching," Chawan said.
Students alleged that Ambrish used to teach all subjects himself and the syllabus too was not completed on time, the officer said.
Neither were prominent lecturers called to teach the students nor were any visits to various places were organised, and this amounts to cheating, the officer said.
Rita Kori (26), a student enrolled in the coaching class in February last year, said, "I had paid Rs 70,000 for the coaching. I was told that as long as I clear all the exams, I can attend the classes. However, he did not keep his words. Moreover, the teaching quality was very poor and outdated. He alone used to teach us all subjects in cramped classes."
There were occasions when Ambrish completed an entire subject in a single day, alleged Kori, one of the students who complained to the police.
