Telecom industry body COAI today said it estimates to spend around Rs 1-2 crore on campaigns to create awareness on radiation from mobile towers.
"We are running campaigns to create awareness about no harm from mobile tower radiation based on scientific facts. First phase of this is already over which cost the industry about Rs 2 to 3 crore.
"We are starting second phase which should cost Rs 1 to 2 crore," Cellular Operators Association of India Director General Rajan S Mathews said here.
COAI will run campaigns across print, television and social media and mainly target residential colonies association, local government bodies and medical fraternity to create awareness.
Mathews said many people are misleading masses on mobile radiation because of their vested interest and without any proven scientific facts which needs to be checked.
COAI has brought on board a senior Professor from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Oncologist at Columbia University, medical professionals from Tata Medical Centre and an international expert on radiation for campaign.
