'ICGS C-422' was commissioned in a traditional ceremony at Karaikal port yesterday by Puducherry Assembly Speaker V Sabapathy.
"ICGS C-422 is the 36th interceptor boat being built and inducted into the Coast Guard service," an official release said here today.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by top officials including Inspector General SP Sharma, Commander CG Region (East).
The boat is capable of multiple tasks including surveillance, interdiction, and search and rescue.
It is fitted with state-of-the-art communication, navigational equipment and adequate fire power, the release added. Coast Guard already has two fast patrol vessels ICGS Rani Durgavati, ICGS Ameya and two interceptor boats C-428 and C-415 at Karaikal.
