Coconut growers protest non-procurement of copra

: Coconut growers staged a demonstration in front of the copra procurement centre in Pollachi today by unloading their produce on the ground, to protest non-procurement of copra for the last few days.
Even as the farmers had brought 150 bags of copra yesterday, the officials refused to procure it and also did not give proper reply for not doing so all these days, police said.
Protesting against the centre, the growers today unloaded all their copra in front of the centre and staged a demonstration, police said.
Later some officials assured that the copra would be taken on a regular basis, official sources said.

The procurement centre was opened on June 15 and copra was procured on the inaugural day, police said.
