The severe cold wave conditions sweeping most parts of Himachal Pradesh intensified today as minimum temperatures dropped further while the high altitude areas witnessed light snowfall.
Keylong received 3 cm of snow and registered a low of minus 3.7 degrees Celsius, while Kalpa recorded minimum temperature of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius. Shimla and Manali each shivered at 2 degrees Celsius.
Threat of a medium danger avalanche loomed large over the tribal areas and higher hills and people have been advised to restrict their outdoor movements.
All natural sources of water in high altitude areas are frozen, reducing discharge of water in Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers.
Day temperatures rose marginally and Una was the hottest recording a high of 22.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperatures in Bhuntar and Sundernagar was 19.6 degrees Celsius and 18.6 degrees Celisus, followed by Nahan and Solan each 17.2 degrees Celsius, Manali 12.6 degrees Celsius, Shimla 12.1 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region for next six days.
