Temperature in higher parts of Himachal Pradesh was recorded at minus 15 to 22 degree Celsius as all the natural sources of water have been frozen causing sharp fall in discharge of water in snow-fed Sutlej, Ravi and Beas rivers.
The piercing cold wave conditions continued without any respite, as the minimum temperatures stayed below 4.5 degree across the state.
High altitude tribal areas suffered the most under biting cold wave conditions.
Keylong recorded minimum temperature at minus 9.5 degrees while Kalpa and Manali recorded a low of minus 5.0 degrees and minus 3.0 degrees, followed by Bhuntar 0.7 degrees, Sundernagar 1.0 degrees, Una 2.0 degree.
Solan and Palampur shivered at 2.4 degrees and 3.0 degrees, followed by Nahan 3.5 degrees, Dharamsala 3.8 degrees and Shimla 4.3 degree C.
Thick ground frost occurred at many places in mid and higher hills in the morning hours, hampering vehicular traffic while fog obscured the landscape in the towns along the river banks in the morning.
Weather remained dry in the region but there was no increase in minimum temperatures.
Maximum day temperatures increased by one to three degrees and Una was warmest during the day with a high of 19.0 degrees while Sundernagar and Solan recorded maximum temperatures at 18.6 degrees and 18.2 degrees, followed by Bhuntar 17.0 degrees, Nahan 15.9 degrees, Dharaamsala 14.2 degrees, Shimla 12.1 degrees, Manali 8.0 degrees and Kalpa 3.0 degrees.
The local MeT office has predicted light rains or snow at isolated places in higher hills tomorrow and dry weather in the state over next five days.
