Patrolling and combing operations would be stepped up in some forests of Kerala where presence of Maoists has been reported by intelligence agencies, state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala told the state Assembly today.
The Government has decided to formulate effective steps to tackle the Maoists on the basis of a political consensus, the minister said in reply to a question.
The UDF Government had earlier this week convened an all party meet to discuss the issue and evolve a consensus on tackling the ultras, about which almost all mainstream parties shared concern.
The intelligence agencies have reported presence of Maoists in forests in Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram in north Kerala.
They are found to be making efforts to build pockets of influence in areas close to tribal settlements by cashing in on the woes of the marginalised sections.
Apart from raising the vigil, the all-party meet had resolved to address the grievances of tribals like prompt delivery of ration and healthcare besides safeguarding their land from further alienation.
