Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged upon the state's scientific fraternity to come up with "out-of-the-box" solutions to combat the menaces of environmental pollution, energy crisis, water scarcity, global warming, and climate change.
Congratulating the scientists who were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to science at a function here, Patnaik expressed hope that their feats would sow the seeds of a new generation of scientific revolution.
This would be achieved by stimulating young researchers and popularising scientific achievements for the benefit of the common people, he said.
The Chief Minister was giving away awards of the Odisha Bigyan Academy (OBA) for 2012 at a function here.
"Our academic and research institutions have to enhance their quality to match international standards. Our research programmes need to achieve a range of out-of-the-box solutions to combat the menaces of environmental pollution, energy crisis, water scarcity, global warming, and climate change," Patnaik said.
The annual conclave of scientists and technocrats organised by OBA would provide an excellent platform to young scientists, school children and traditional innovators, he said.
Patnaik felicitated Prof Satyananda Acharya, Prof Bhabendra Kumar Patnaik, and Govinda Chandra Sahu under the senior scientist category while Prof Ganapati Panda received the Biju Patnaik Award for Scientific Excellence.
The Samanta Chandra Sekhar Award was given to four scientists - Dr Birendra Kumar Mohapatra, Prof Sushil Kumar Dutta, Prof Sanghamitra Mohanty, and Dr Ajit Kumar Shasany.
Odisha Young Scientist Award was received by three persons - Dr Dipti Prakasini Das, Dr Banikalyan Swain, and Dr Punyapriya Mishra.
Dr Purabi Mohanty and Dr Jyotirmayee Mohanty were awarded the Pranakrushna Parija Popular Science Award for 2012.
