Comedian Ted Robbins collapses during performance

Comedian Ted Robbins was taken to hospital after collapsing on stage during a performance of Phoenix Nights Live at Manchester Arena.
The 59-year-old comedian reportedly fell to the floor mid-way through the show on the opening night. The show was cancelled after Robbins was rushed to hospital. He is now in a stable condition, reported BBC online.
Robbins' collapse was sudden and many in the audience initially thought it was a part of the performance. It soon became obvious Robbins was in distress when arena staff rushed on to the stage and the curtain was dropped.
A spokesperson for Manchester Arena issued a statement explaining that the performance was stopped "so we could get Ted the help he needed".

"He's been taken to hospital and is in a stable condition," the spokesperson added.
Robbins' sister, one of his many relatives in the audience, has been keeping fans updated with his progress.
"My brother Ted was taken ill on stage. He's been taken to a local hospital. Thank you for all your good wishes and concern. He's a fighter," actress Kate Robbins tweeted.
The comedian plays Den Perry in Phoenix Nights Live, based on Peter Kay's musical of the same name. The show was the first of 15 which are being staged in aid of Comic Relief although it is uncertain as yet if Robbins will be well enough to return to perform in the sold out shows.
