Committee formed to frame guidelines for safety of students

The Haryana government has set up a committee that will frame guidelines on ways to ensure the safety of students following the gruesome murder of a seven-year-old boy in a school in Gurgaon.
To prevent the recurrence of such incidents, standard operating procedures or guidelines have to be put in place, Rajiv Rattan, director, secondary education, Haryana, said in a statement today.
"This committee shall propose the guidelines as expeditiously as possible but not beyond two days," he said in the order issued yesterday on the formation of the committee.
The committee will comprise the additional directors of elementary and secondary education, district education officer, Panchkula, district attorney, deputy director (Utkarsh), assistant director (academic cell) and representatives of private schools.

"In recent times, many incidents have taken place in the state whereby the safety of students, teachers and schools has been compromised. These incidents bring a bad name to the schooling system," he said.
He stressed that safety concerns required an "immediate response".

"To frame detailed, relevant and effective guidelines, a committee of the officers of school education department is the need of the hour," he said.
"Accordingly, a committee of the officers has been constituted to frame guidelines for the safety of students and teachers of schools," he said in the order.
The murder last week of the Class 2 student of Ryan International School, Gurgaon, created widespread outrage and protests.
