Commonwealth delegation interacts with NE stakeholders

A Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) delegation today discussed with stakeholders about foreign investment prospects and modalities for an investment in high speed rail network in North East.
The delegation was led by Rt Hon Lord Speaker Baroness D' Souza and held discussions with stakeholders from key sectors of the region on other secors like tea, tourism, power and MSME at an interaction on 'Economic Challenges and Opportunities in the North East' organised by FICCI here.
A FICCI release said the delegation showed keen interest in understanding the dynamics of the MSME sector in the region and how SHGs could gear up to meet demand and supply gap of European nations.
The tea industry, which is the primary industry in Assam, was also discussed and the delegates also looked into its nuances with help from stakeholders of the northeast region who were present at the meeting, it said.
The other members of the delegation were Lord Balfe of Dulwich, Member of the House of Lords (Liberal Democrat), Rt Hon Simon Burns MP for Chelmsford Eastern (Conservative), Rt Rev Lord Harries of Pentregarth, Member of the House of Lords (Crossbench), Andy Love MP, Member of Parliament for Edmonton, London (Labour), Lord Purvis of Tweed, Member of the House of Lords (Liberal Democrat), Dame Angela Watkinson DBE MP, Member of Parliament for Upminster, London (Conservative).
