Computer lab assistants in Haryana end their protest

Agitating computer laboratory assistants today decided to end their protest after the state government said it would clear the pending salary and also assured them of consider their other demands sympathetically.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar offered a group of 30 lab assistants, who had been sitting on fast-unto-death for the last 12 days a glass of juice here after holding a meeting with them.
After the meeting, Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, who was also present, said the lab assistants had ended their fast.
He said it was decided that the outstanding salary and other dues of all the 2,622 lab assistants would be cleared within a fortnight.
Sharma said regarding other demands of the assistants the government will consider these sympathetically.
Earlier in a setback to 2,622 computer lab assistants deployed in government schools across the state, Director, Secondary Education, had ordered to discontinue their services recently after the government decided not to extend their contract period which exired in April this year.
The computer lab assistants had been demanding renewal of their contract and their salaries for the past 20 months.
Under the banner of Haryana Rajkiya Computer Lab Sahayak Sangh, hundreds of protesters had recently held a big protest in Karnal.
