Led by UPCC president Nirmal Khatri, Congressmen including party MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders staged dharna before the Gandhi's statue to protest against alleged inaction on part of the state government in the murder case of Mahendra Pratap Singh, son of former MLA of Gauriganj (Amethi) Jung Bahadur Singh and demanded a CBI inquiry.
Singh was killed in June this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Khatri said a named FIR was filed against a Samajwadi Party MLC and others, but later his name was removed and no action was taken against others.
Charging the state government with patronising goondas, Khatri said the vehicles moving about having SP flags on them would have a goonda riding it.
Khatri alleged that despite efforts to seek an appointment from the Chief Minister for drawing his attention on alleged inaction, no appointment was given.
He promised to stand with Jung Bahadur Singh in his struggle for justice and demanded immediate arrest of the killers and CBI inquiry into it.
