A case was registered against several Congress workers over alleged "derogatory" comments on social media against Jai Ram Thakur-led Bharatiya Janata Party government in Himachal Pradesh and BJP leaders, the police said.
The FIR was lodged at Shimla Sadar police station under section 504 (2) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of a complaint by a local Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activist Karan Nanda, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Pramod Shukla said.
Nanda in his complaint alleged that Congress and Youth Congress activists were circulating fake photos on social media claiming many of them were injured during August 24 lathi-charge by police and making derogatory comments against the BJP government and its leaders, he added.
The DSP said the matter would be thoroughly probed and appropriate action taken against those found guilty.
