"It is wrong if any party thinks it can settle scores with violence," Congress leader P C Chacko said.
Chandy yesterday sustained minor injuries in stone pelting during a protest by LDF in Kannur, Kerala.
"We are not against democratic protests against any Chief Minister, but if they think that they can force the Chief Minister to accept any of their demands by pelting stones at him,... It is better that good sense prevails on them and they desist from such things," Chacko said.
Doctors attending on 70-year-old Chandy said his condition was stable but advised complete rest for three days, compelling him to cancel all engagements.
In an overnight search, police rounded up 22 CPI(M) workers from different parts of Kannur and arrested 17 of them, who were remanded to custody.
They have been charged with IPC 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and other sections, including unlawful assembly.
