The state unit of Congress today condemned the two incidents of assault in Kashmir Valley involving BJP candidates, saying it showcased the party's "frustration" of not getting any support from voters.
BJP candidate from Shopian Javed Ahmad Qadri was caught on camera assaulting a man in a polling booth, while another candidate Hina Bhat allegedly slapped an election official claiming irregularities.
"Assaulting a voter by BJP candidate speaks volumes about their inefficiency and frustration after their failure to gain support from the people," Congress state spokesperson Salman Nizami said here.
He said assaulting a voter and slapping a polling officer was a condemnable act.
"These incidents need to be widely condemned and a strong action against the BJP leaders is required," he said.
Nizami accused the BJP of coercing people by offering money and forcibly asking them to vote in their favor.
"BJP's aim to get 44 plus in the state through polarisation and harassment will never be fulfilled, they will not get a single seat from Kashmir as people have already rejected them," he said.
Accusing BJP of indulging in divisive politics, Nizami said, "They (the BJP leadership) have nothing to speak, but only to divide the innocent people. In Kashmir, they raise anti-Jammu issues, and in Jammu they raise anti Kashmir issues. But this time they miserably failed to get such support from the people.
