Maharashtra Congress today termed the rape remarks made by Mulayam Singh Yadav as "shocking" and asked the SP supremo to apologise for it.
"Mulayam Singh's comments were shocking and highly condemnable. He should withdraw them and apologise to the nation. Such comments from a national leader like him are inappropriate," state unit president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Manikrao Thakre said here.
Questioning the death sentence to three men who were convicted of two gang-rapes at the defunct Shakti Mills in Mumbai last week, Mulayam Singh had said, "Should rape cases be punished with hanging?
"Ladke, ladke hain. Galti ho jati hai (Boys are boys. Mistakes happen sometimes)," he said at an election rally in Moradabad yesterday.
