The opposition Congress' sit-in in the well of Madhya Pradesh Assembly on the issue of farmers' woes continued the entire night with leader of opposition Satyadev Katare stating that protesters will not relent as long as their demands are not fulfilled.

"Our sit-in will continue in the well of the House as long as the government will not fulfil our demands," Katare, told reporters outside the Assembly's exit gate here.

He said their demands from the BJP-led government are, to give Rs 150 per quintal bonus on wheat crop, waive of loan recovery, interest, agriculture pumps, compensation for farmers from rain, hail and thunder storm-hit in the last fortnight and for crop loss suffered last year due to natural calamities.

Congress members yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's reply on the issue of providing relief to rain, hail and thunderstorm-hit farmers and staged sit-in in the well of the House even after the Assembly was adjourned sine die by the Speaker.

Senior Congress MLA Mukesh Nayak said that the legislators have decided to stage protest on the issue in 100 constituencies of the state.

"All Congress MLAs will jointly take part in each of these 100 constituencies to expose BJP government's callous attitude towards farmers and rampant corruption in the state," Nayak said.

A detailed programme in this regard will be known later in the day, he said.

In view of the protest, heavy police force has been deployed in the Assembly which indicates that the Assembly may take some coercive action against the legislators, a Congress leader said.

The special one-day session of the House was called yesterday to pass supplementary budget with voice vote.
