Cong moves EC accusing Modi of provoking communal sentiments

Accusing Narendra Modi of provoking communal sentiments by referring to Lord Krishna and cows during a rally in Bihar, Congress today complained to the Election Commission, saying he had violated the Model Code of Conduct and an FIR be registered against him.
"The cow is sacred and pious animal and has a special place in Hindu mythology. The statement made by Modi referring to cow, Lord Krishna, the grant of subsidy and slaughter houses and the tone and tenor of his public address is clearly with a purpose to arouse communal feeling for seeking votes.
"The objective is to provoke religious sentiment of the people for election purposes, during operation of the model code, which is also likely to aggravate the existing differences between two communities," Congress Legal Department Secretary K C Mittal said in his complaint to the Commission.

He said Modi had made these remarks in an election rally on April 2 in Nawada in Bihar.
In the complaint, the Congress leader said the statement made during operation of the model code is "not only, objectionable and deplorable but also prohibited by the Model Code of Conduct. A bare perusal of the video will speak volumes for itself.
"It is, therefore, requested that immediate action may be taken against Modi, Chief Minister, Gujarat and BJP for violating Model Code of Conduct," the complaint said, adding registration of an FIR and derecognition of BJP be ordered.
