Congress and NCP today issued a Whip to its corporators in all the civic bodies coming under the eight local authorities constituencies that go to polls on December 27 in Maharashtra directing them to vote for alliance candidates only.
A joint statement issued here today, however, is silent on the candidature of former NCP leader Prasad Lad and former Congress leader Jayant Sasane for Mumbai and Ahmednagar local authorities constituencies.
The joint statement issued by Congress states that both Lad and Sasane could not withdraw their candidature in time before the last date of withdrawal of candidature.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Ashok Chavan and NCP state president Sunil Tatkare have declared the list of official candidates for the forthcoming Council elections.
Both the opposition parties have struck an alliance for the Legislative Council polls.
Eight local authorities constituencies in the Legislative Council that go to polls on December 27 are - Mumbai (two), Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Solapur, Dhule-Nandurbar and Akola-Washim-Buldhana.
