Congress party workers on Thursday burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in front of the collectorate here protesting the detention of party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.

"The Delhi Police has become puppets of the ruling party in the Centre. They are trying to infringe the fundamental rights of the leaders and the public as well. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's behaviour is like a dictator," Congress state organising secretary Narendra Rathi said.

Gandhi was detained at Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital in Delhi on Wednesday when he was trying to meet the bereaved family members of ex-serviceman Ram Krishan Grewal who allegedly committed suicide over the One rank, One pension issue.
