Asserting that development and performance is his agenda, Congress candidate from Akhnoor and sitting MLA from the seat Sham Lal Sharma today said he is seeking votes on the basis of the work done by him in the constituency.
"My agenda is development and performance. I am seeking votes in these areas on merit, not like others who probably do not know the topography of these areas," Sharma said at an election rally here today.
He said people should not trust false promises and allow any negative mindset to damage the tempo of "accelerated all- round development in their villages".
Sharma, who is the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, claimed that during the 12 years when he was the Akhnoor MLA, uplift and development of Kandi and Pahari areas remained his utmost priority.
He said Development Blocks at Chowki Choura, Mandrian and Bhalwal Brahmana was his landmark achievement since prior to it, only one Block at Akhnoor catered to the vast Akhnoor constituency.
He said generating more avenues of employment for educated youths of Akhnoor will be his top priority. He said he will work for the opening of agro-based industries in Akhnoor to provide employment. He said counselling centres will be set up in his constituency for providing bright employment opportunities to local youths.
Sharma said "his vision of Akhnoor as a tourist spot" will be fulfilled in next six years with development of Chenab ghats, building of tourist reception centre, bridges on Chenab to connect Akhnoor from all sides, better road connectivity civic amenities and and health services.
This will make Akhnoor a 'Model Constituency' in the state, he said.
Later talking to reporters, he alleged that BJP has "cheated" Hindus in Jammu,
It is bent upon dividing Hindus while supporting Kashmiri Pandits demand for minority status, he said.
