Cong stages protest against AP govt over farmer suicides

The leaders criticises the TDP govt, says that it failed to implement its promises at the time of last general elections on loan waivers

Congress on Saturday held demonstrations against the Andhra Pradesh government, alleging that it failed to prevent farmer suicides in the state.

Former Legislators Malladi Vishnu and Devineni Nehru, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson K Shivaji along with local party leaders participated in the protest at the sub-collector's office here.

The leaders criticised the TDP government saying it failed to implement its promises at the time of last general elections on loan waivers.

"Though TDP promised total waiver of agricultural loans but the state government put some conditions in implementing the loan waiver and ultimately, only a few farmers benefited," Congress leaders said.

They alleged since the loan waiver was not properly implemented, many debt-ridden farmers were forced to commit suicides.

The party has demanded to implement loan waiver according to poll promise and compensation for kin of farmers who have taken the extreme step.
