Jammu and Kashmir Congress today said that party will address the aspirations and woes of members of Panchayats in the State and their issues would be taken up with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
"The Congress party, which has decided to go all alone in the upcoming Assembly elections on all the 87 seats in state, has assured the panchs and sarpanchs to take up their all genuine demands would be addressed", Joint Secretary, Salman Nizami said here today.
Senior Congress leaders Gulam Nabi Azad and Ambica Soni will take up their issues with the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to get them resolved immediately, Nizami said.
The members of all Panchayat Conference were assured in a separate meeting with the party senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni in Jammu on Sunday, he added.
"The members discussed the issue thoroughly with the party senior leaders and they assured them that the Congress party will take up the matter with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah soon," he said in a statement issued here.
Nizami said that the Congress is very serious about the demands of panchs and sarpanchs and the party will definitely take a final call over their issues after discussing the matter with Chief Minster.
He said although the Congress was instrumental in conducting historic panchayat elections in state, however, the party leaders informed panchayat members that it was helpless as coalition partner to address their genuine demands.
He said the party leaders assured Panchs and sarpanchs that they will not be ignored as they play pivotal role in the all round development of state. Various panchayat members including the All Panchayat Conference chairman Shafiq Mir attended the meeting.
