Accusing BJP and ruling SP of being hand-in-glove in trying to give a communal colour to the Kanth incident, Congress today said it will take out a peace march in the town on July 26 to foil such attempts by the two parties.
"Like Muzaffarnagar, BJP wanted communal riot over the Kanth incident also and the attitude of the state government is such that it looks that the entire show is managed with BJP," UPCC president Nimal Khatri told newspersons here.
He said to put an end to this, Congress will take out a peace march in Kanth on July 26.
Khatri said he along with National General Secretary and incharge of party affairs in the state Madhusudan Mistry, Leader of the Legislature Party Pradip Mathur and other party leaders will take part in the march.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said the government will not allow Kanth to become a battleground.
"After losing power both in the state and the Centre, a directionless Congress has started following BJP and BSP and like them wants to create disorder in the name of peaceful march and demonstration," Chaudhary said in a statement.
Violent protests were held at Kanth in Moradabad on July 4 over holding of a mahapanchayat called by state BJP over removal of a loudspeaker from a religious place in Akbarpur village. The mahapanchayat was called in defiance of the state order.
Four BJP MPs and an MLA were detained during the violence during which several officials, including the District Magistrate, were injured.
