Buoyed by reverses suffered by BJP in recent bypolls, Congress is expected to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi the target of its attack in the run up to next month's assembly polls in Haryana.
AICC General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed, who is incharge of party affairs in the state, told reporters that Modi's 100 day "misrule" will be a prime issue for the party during the campaigning.
He said that with BJP not projecting a Chief Ministerial candidate and contesting the elections under Modi's leadership, the Prime Minister is bound to be the focus of Congress' campaign.
Interacting with the media after a meeting of the party's publicity committee for the state polls, Ahmed said achievements of the party's government in Haryana in the last ten years will also be highlighted while reaching out to the people.
Party leaders said Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who had gone to the US for a medical checkup, is expected to be back by tomorrow after which a meeting of the party's Central Election Committee will be held, possibly on September 21. CEC was earlier scheduled to meet tomorrow, which has been cancelled.
Asked whether all sitting MLAs would be renominated, he said tickets would be given on the criteria of performance and the reports received from the ground level.
He sidestepped questions whether Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would be contesting from two seats.
Assembly elections in the state are crucial for Congress as it could secure just one out of ten seats in the Lok Sabha polls while BJP secured 7 and INLD 2.
