Gujarat Congress today walked out of the state assembly alleging that a man, who had been arrested by police for duping students promising them government jobs, was actually a BJP functionary.
Police had recently arrested Kalyansinh Champawat, who had allegedly taken money from candidates appearing for exams to clear a test to fill the posts of talathis (patwaris or revenue officials).
During the discussion on calling attention notice under rule number 116 of the house, Congress MLA from Danilimbda constituency Shailesh Parmar, who had moved the notice, alleged that the man who had taken money from the candidates appearing for recruitment of talathis, was linked to BJP.
Parmar also displayed his photo in the house with some local BJP leaders.
However, replying to the allegations, Revenue Minister Anandi Patel denied the allegation.
"The exams for recruitment were conducted by the Gujarat Technological University, which is a private body and there was no chance of influencing anybody for the exams," she said.
However, Congress members insisted that he was a BJP member and also displayed photocopies of the man's picture with BJP leaders.
Speaker Vaju Vala told the Congress members to stick to the discussion of the contents of the notice instead of levelling allegations.
The Congress members walked out of the house after the Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela said such agents were duping poor job seekers.
